Music

At Rusthall St Paul's School we see music as a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children. It plays an important part in their personal development and sometimes draws the best out of unexpected children. Music reflects the culture and society we live in, and so the teaching and learning of music enables children to better understand the world they live in – giving opportunities to broaden the horizons of our pupils. It plays an important part in helping children feel part of a community. We provide opportunities for all children to create, play, perform and enjoy music; to develop the skills to appreciate a wide variety of musical forms. For those who exhibit a desire and propensity to develop their skills beyond the primary curriculum, we aim to ensure access to musical experiences that allow them to fulfil their potential.

In this school all children will have the opportunity to sing, to listen to music, to experience different musical instruments, to perform and to enjoy music. As pupils progress, they will develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and listen to a wide range of music from their own cultural heritage, from the cultures within the school community and the wider world and to begin to make judgements about the quality of music.
